Frankfurt, Germany; What was carefully planned as a memorable surprise honour for renowned journalist Stella Dimoko Korkus at the 2026 Nollywood Film Festival Germany (NFFG) and Nollywood Europe Golden Awards (NEGA) Gala-Nite almost turned into an unexpected health scare.
Stella Dimoko Korkus, a respected and prolific journalist, had been closely involved in supporting the event, both financially and morally, as well as in several other ways. Unknown to her, however, she was also secretly listed among the distinguished honourees of the evening.
Interestingly, Stella was indirectly involved in aspects of the event’s planning and was familiar with virtually all the award recipients except one: herself.
Determined to preserve the surprise, the organisers deliberately delayed the distribution of the official event magazine, knowing that its contents could expose the carefully guarded secret. Stella, being the thorough journalist, she is, repeatedly requested the magazine and even searched for it, but the organisers successfully kept it away from her.
From Glamour to Simplicity
As the event approached, Stella reportedly changed from her gorgeous outfit into a much simpler dress, reasoning that she was attending primarily as a journalist and should not be dressed more elaborately than the award recipients.
With the remark, “Why should I dress more than the awardees when I am just a reporter?”, she arrived at the venue looking simple, comfortable and completely focused on her journalistic duties.
Throughout the event, she remained busy doing what she does best reporting. She was actively sending live reports of the proceedings to media platforms when the unexpected happened.
Her name was suddenly announced as one of the evening’s special honourees.
The Moment of Shock
The reaction was immediate and completely unexpected.
Stella was reportedly overwhelmed by the announcement, losing her breath, shaking and sweating as the reality of the surprise sank in. She required assistance to make her way to the stage to receive the honour.

Even a week after the event, the organisers were still reflecting on the unexpected health aftermath of the emotional shock caused by the surprise announcement.
The organisers later learned an ironic detail about their carefully planned surprise: Stella Dimoko Korkus reportedly does not like surprises at all.

Despite the unexpected turn of events, the honour was a heartfelt recognition of Stella Dimoko Korkus’s contribution, professionalism, commitment to journalism and support for the Nollywood community and its activities in the Diaspora.
The organisers described the episode as a powerful reminder that while surprises can create unforgettable memories, they can also produce reactions that no one can predict.
For Stella, the evening was supposed to be another assignment as a journalist covering the NFFG and NEGA Gala-Nite. Instead, she unexpectedly became one of the night’s biggest stories.
