Alex Ekubo

It was on the set of “Sinners In The House” in Lagos, Nigeria back in 2002 that I first met Late Alex Ekubo. He stood quietly by the fence, watching the shooting of my very first Nollywood movie which featured legends like Late Justus Esiri, Charles Inojie, Ngozi Ezeonu, Empress Njamah and many others.

Director Lancelot Imasuen noticed the handsome young boy with the charming smile, signalled him into the compound, and quickly created an addendum role for him — a role he delivered professionally and effortlessly. That moment marked my first meeting with Late Alex Ekubo, and perhaps even one of his earliest experiences on a movie set.

From that humble beginning, the late Alex Ekubo went on to build an impressive career in Nollywood, earning recognition for his talent, charisma and dedication to the craft. He was even nominated for the 2026 Nollywood Europe Golden Awards by entertainment journalists, never knowing that death would come calling so soon before the event. He was a gifted actor whose contributions to Nollywood will not be forgotten in a hurry.

Alex Ekubo will be greatly missed. May his soul rest in peace.
