The German city of Frankfurt will once again host the Nollywood Film Festival Germany (NFFG) alongside its sister event, the Nollywood Europe Golden Awards (NEGA), on 30–31 August. The annual entertainment showcase, organized by Ehizoya Golden Entertainment e.V., will feature Nigerian film screenings, live music performances, and an awards gala celebrating African creative excellence.
The highlight of this year’s NFFG/NEGA is the highly anticipated performance by Nigerian and African music icon Innocent Idibia aka 2Baba (2Face Idibia) at the Gala and Awards Night on 31 August. His appearance in Frankfurt forms part of his European tour, “20 Years A King Europe,” marking two decades of an illustrious music career. The tour will also take him to Berlin, Essen, Zurich, Torino, Vienna, Gothenburg, and Malta.
The festival will kick off on 30 August with the premiere of Wade, an award-winning film by acclaimed director Lancelot Oduwa Imasuen. The film sheds light on the devastating effects of female genital mutilation still prevalent in some rural African communities and tells the courageous story of a woman determined to end the practice.
The Nollywood Europe Golden Awards and Gala Night will follow on 31 August, featuring an electrifying musical experience led by 2Baba. Other performers billed for the night include Europe-based artists such as Don VS (Italy), Chuks Cbily (Germany), Lilian Dinma (Denmark), Mark Edo “The Shaking Shaking Master” (Spain), Keishera (Germany), and Ghanaian star Zeal of VVIP (Germany), among others. A day after the Frankfurt show, 2Baba will also perform at the prestigious Columbia Theater in Berlin.
Isaac Izoya, founder and director of NFFG/NEGA, who has championed Nollywood and African artists across Europe for nearly two decades, has promised an even grander event this year. Honourees at the ceremony include Innocent Idibia (2Baba), his manager Efe Omoregbe, and Don VS, among others. The event will be hosted by Belgium-based comedian Fiddy Ice. A special recognition will also be presented to Germany-based philanthropist Alhaji Bola Adenekan, noted for leading German medical teams on several humanitarian missions to Nigeria.
The Consul General of the Nigerian Consulate in Frankfurt, Ambassador Suleiman Dauda Umar, is expected to attend as Special Guest of Honour.
NFFG serves as a platform for Nigerian and African filmmakers to showcase their works to European audiences and Africans in the diaspora, while NEGA recognizes outstanding achievements by actors, musicians, comedians, and other industry stakeholders. According to Izoya, this year’s programme is designed to surpass last year’s highly successful edition.
